Introducing a Deposit Return Scheme on Beverage Containers

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Summary have made a proposal to introduce a deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers. A DRS is a system that encourages the return of the packaging to collection points through the incentive of a refundable deposit paid by consumers at the point of purchase.

Tesco are looking at running a trial scheme for stainless steel food containers. However, no one in the UK seems to produce such items, either flasks, cups or containers.

If anyone is interested in developing food containers such as cups, boxes, flasks etc. in the UK, the BSSA would like to log any companies that are interested in the developing this market.
