Energy costs and support – SIC codes
The Energy Bills Discount Scheme is now clearly linked to Standard Industry Classification (SIC) codes. www.gov.uk/guidance/energy-bills-discount-scheme#eligibility-for-energy-bills-discount-scheme
Whilst some member companies are included, we do have a number of members who are registered under other SICs so that are not included. The BSSA would suggest that member companies check that they are registered under the correct SIC, or if there is a benefit in changing the SIC registration.
Checks can be carried out using the UK Standard Industrial Classification Hierarchy found on the following link. https://onsdigital.github.io/dp-classification-tools/standard-industrial-classification/ONS_SIC_hierarchy_view.html
Changing SIC code for a company might be sensible, if there are financial benefits that result (such as support with energy costs either from this scheme or from the EIIs scheme), but there could also be unintended consequences for instance with the HSE focus on COSHH, fumes and dusts and perhaps EA work.
