DaeWha Kang Design for The OWO hotel at the site of the former Old War Office in Whitehall, London

The project by DaeWha Kang Design for The OWO hotel at the site of the former Old War Office in Whitehall, London, is a remarkable blend of contemporary design and historical context.

The pavilion and courtyard are situated in front of the historic Grade II*-listed building, formerly the Old War Office, emphasizing the balance between new design and existing heritage.

Practicality and longevity were central to the material selection process. Mirror stainless steel was used for the roof panels, chosen for its robustness and easy maintenance. Innovative fabrication techniques were employed to reduce materials and energy usage.

The pavilion was designed with circular design principles in mind, allowing for parts to be mechanically fixed, replaced, or recycled at the end of life. The prefabricated structure can be easily assembled, dismantled, and reassembled if needed.
