Chemical composition of stainless steel castings to BS EN 10283

Introduction

BS EN 10283 is the material standard for stainless steel castings for corrosion resisting purposes. Martensitic, precipitation hardening, austenitic and austenitic-ferritic, (duplex), grades are included.

The standard was revised in 2019, in comparison with EN 10283:2010, the following significant technical changes were made:
— alignment with the structure of EN 1559-1:2011, Founding — Technical conditions of delivery —
Part 1: General and EN 1559-2:2014, Founding — Technical conditions of delivery — Part 2:
Additional requirements for steel castings;
— new grade, (GX20Cr14), added;
— Table A.1: welding group added.

The chemical composition of all the grades of stainless steel covered in the standard are listed.

As an alternative to scanning down the list try the ‘find’ facility on your keyboard, using the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘F’ keys together. Type in the term you are looking for in the dialog box that then appears.

The data given is not intended to replace that shown in individual standards to which reference should always be made.

Notes

1. The niobium content value applies for the sum of the niobium + tantalum.

2. For regulated markets sulphur contents between 0.015% and 0.030% are recommended.

3. For special applications a minimum content of 0.5% copper and 0.5% tungsten can be agreed.
