Availability of Stainless Steel Grades

Availability of Stainless Steel Products

The tables below give an indication of the availability of stainless steel flat and long products. The intention is to give designers and specifiers some idea of how easy it will be to source their choice of grade and product form. The information has been created as a response to enquiries for rare grades which are difficult to source in small quantities.

Comments are invited on the tables. It is likely with such a large amount of information that there are some differences of opinion about the availability of some grades. If you want to make a comment on this table please email to ssas@bssa.org.uk.

Availability of Flat Products Grades from EN 10088-2

The table below contains all grades listed in EN 10088-2. The meaning of the availability scores is:

1 – Readily available from any recognised stainless steel stockholder

2 – Available from a significant number of specialist stainless steel stockholders

3 – Available from a limited number of suppliers

4 – Available only from stainless steel mills if sufficient quantity required

5 – Not practically available

N/A – Not applicable – Indicates that the grade is not intended to be made in that product form. For example, most ferritic grades would not be made as plate.
