British steelmakers forced to pay 25% tariff on Northern Ireland sales
Importing stainless steels from the UK to Northern Ireland has become more difficult since Brexit. Under the terms of the Northern Ireland Protocol the EU safeguarding measures apply to steel imports, including from the UK. The UK is included in the “other countries” area if the UK does not have an individual country allowance. We see that cold rolled stainless steel sheet and strip (Product Category 9) quota was exhausted on the 13th July.
Other stainless products such as bars and light sections(Product Category number 14) , stainless wire and rod (Product Category number 15) and Stainless Steel Hot Rolled Quarto Plates (Product Category 10) have their own specific quotas for the UK and these as we look today seem OK with considerable balances still available.
